The Glow Down: Where to Eat in Chicago, What I Feed My Dog, My Favorite Bloggers

    Oct 27, 2016 • The Glow Down

    flatlay

Grab a cup of coffee, tea, a smoothie (or wine!) and find a cozy spot for my new weekly chit chat series “The Glow Down” aka the lowdown on everything and anything you guys have been asking me lately.

This is a fun series where I answer questions, give tips, offer my thoughts/advice, etc. Really though, it’s super casual and can be about anything from the plant based vegan lifestyle to my 5-Day Cleanse or Vegan Starter Guide to beauty/girly stuff to cooking tips to my favorite products and home things, blogging stuff or how to find something here on the blog, even what shirt or sweater I was wearing on Snapchat…

Leave a comment below with questions for next week’s post or contact me here if you want to remain anonymous (my email is theglowingfridge@gmail.com). You can message me on facebook, instagram, snapchat (glowingfridge) or twitter too… you name it, anything goes! I’m trying to build up the community we already have here on TGF so it remains a helpful resource for you guys! It would mean a lot if you sent in questions or thoughts etc. 🙂 Plus I love reading these on other blogs because they normally answer questions I never even knew I had! 🙂

Hope you are having a great week so far!

    Let’s get started.

What kind of dog is Taz? How old is he?

My little angel rescue!! Taz is a chihuahua that I rescued when he was 6 months old – he was the tiniest little jumping bean who gave non-stop kisses and I fell in LOVE with him instantly. He will be 3 years old in November! You can always find him buried and snuggled under a cozy blanket – even when it’s 80 degrees outside. Just be sure to check the blanket before you sit down and accidentally smush him… Taz has a lot of nicknames too: bookie, booboo, cookie face, angel face, baby bear LOL.

    I’m a crazy dog person and I don’t care.

    Taz

Does Taz eat vegan? What kind of treats does he get?

Taz eats regular dog food and definitely does NOT eat a vegan diet as I believe dogs are carnivores! Have you seen their teeth?! Humans do not have canine teeth like that, which is why I believe we are meant to eat plant based (read more about that here) but he loves meat and I haven’t found any reasoning for feeding him a vegan diet. He is quite spoiled with treats and only eats beef jerky treats now… but he eats a mixture of grain-free dry dog food (from Taste of the Wild) with some FreshPet wet food mixed in. He also LOVES sweet potatoes – so I always give him some when I make sweet potatoes .

What do you guys feed your dogs?!

Where is your new gray couch and matching loveseat from?

My gray loveseat and couch/chaise are from The Roomplace. I absolutely love them! They have silver studs throughout the arms and base which adds a modern touch but they’re super comfy and roomy and come with massive gray pillows to match. So happy with these as I looked around forever trying to find pieces to fit my style. They’re perfect!

Where do you recommend going to eat in Chicago?

    So many options!

For Breakfast/Smoothies: Left Coast, Real Good Juice Co., Peeled, Meli Cafe, Owen & Alchemy, Fruve Xpress, Hi-Vibe Superfood Juicery

For Lunch: Native Foods Cafe, SweetGreen, Uncommon Ground, Freshii, LYFE Kitchen, Falafill, Karyn’s

For Dinner: The Chicago Diner, Green Zebra, Mana Food Bar, Ground Control, Handlebar, Kitchen 17, Urban Vegan

I know there’s more but that’s all I can think of. Let me know in the comments if you know of others!!

    Who are your favorite bloggers?

Omg, so many! One thing I want to mention: I follow all kinds of blogs because they all give me inspiration and I think it’s important to follow bloggers that aren’t in your niche per say, as it’s veryyyy easy to compare what they are doing to what I’m doing. So I make a point to gather inspiration from all kinds of bloggers and topics! The first ever blog I saw was Gal Meets Glam, over 5  years ago. Not a vegan blog, but a fashion blog. She was my inspiration to start blogging, and look at her now… she’s big time! Same goes for The Skinny Confidential – been following her for years!

    Favorite Vegan/Food Blogs:

Blissful Basil, Feasting on Fruit, Hummusapien, Minimalist Baker, Choosing Chia, Edible Perspective, Oh She Glows, Emilie Eats, Two Raspberries, Gimme Some Oven, RachLmansfield, Vanillacrunnch, Plant Based Blonde, Big Man’s World, RawManda, In My Bowl, Nikki Sharp

    Other Blogs I Love:

Cara Loren, Babeskills, Public Lives Secret Recipes, Hello Fashion, Something Navy, Fashion Lush, Lakeshore Lady, Olivia Rink, Fairly Yours (one of my besties!)

That’s it for now! Happy almost Friday 🙂

Keep your questions coming as I have an ongoing list of them now and check them off once answered!

      Hi Shannon!

I’m loving this series so far. I have a couple questions for future posts…
How did you and Terry meet? 🙂
Where do you buy your Kombucha? I find it gets expensive buying individual bottles at the store–do you buy yours in bulk? If so, where?

Hey Ariana – yay! I will definitely include your questions in this week’s post 🙂 by the way, I only buy kombucha when it’s on sale, usually at Whole Foods but sometimes Target. If you buy it in bulk at Whole Foods (1 box is 12 bottles I think) you get 10% off the price. I haven’t done that in a while though.. just buy the occasional few when they’re on sale!

& my hair needed SERIOUS HELP. It was super oily & my hair needed SERIOUS HELP.

It was super oily and greasy with buildup from past products. I was washing daily… and just unhappy with the dullness and lack of volume. That has since changed!

Aside from getting transformed hair, this opportunity allows motivated women to have another income source. It allows mamas to have the best of both worlds - their own income while raising their babies (if you’re in that phase of life). It provides social media training, so much guidance and support (you’re never doing it alone), earned confidence and most importantly, community. Some of my best friends are here now because we talk daily and know everything about each other’s lives! Surrounding yourself with like-minded successful women can turn your life around. I’m not kidding. You are who you surround yourself with. It’s more than just shampoo.

All it takes is deciding YES and stepping out of your comfort zone. Don’t let life pass you by. Stop wondering and start taking action! 🥂

If you’re ready, DM me BIZ and let’s chat 💞

what healing looks like 🌼🩷 I starts out my what healing looks like 🌼🩷

I starts out my morning with a bunch of supplements to eliminate parasites and bacteria and repair my gut while supporting my liver and gallbladder. Next I make a protein smoothie with vanilla whey protein powder and a custom supplement to support my deficiencies. And lastly my creamy dandy blend latte because I’m not drinking coffee right now.

This is what works for me right now! I also have gf toast usually from @awgbakery. I’ve had to eliminate so many things but it’s all for good reason, to reduce all the inflammation. I’m working with @lifelabwellnessco if you would like your own custom plan and testing 🙏🏼 should I share more videos like this?
