Today’s post on the ‘Beautifier Smoothie’ is SO fun AND I have a coupon code at the end for 3 free smoothies that you don’t want to miss!
But first… something happened to me this past weekend that hasn’t happened in over 2 years…
I got sick…
Pretty amazing how the 2-year timeline just so correlates with when I decided to go vegan overnight… coincidence much?! Maybe… but I’d like to credit all those glowing fruits, veggies and superfoods that kept up my immunity, because I used to get sick a few times a year! Feeling achey and feverish on Sunday night, I knew I was coming down with something nasty. After driving home from the lake house Monday morning, it totally hit me… I was in bed ALL day. Whatever this sickness is took me OUT. Sorta felt like the flu with fever, chills, pounding headache, sore throat and a gnarly cough.
Come Tuesday I was still feeling miserable but had to get work done, so I forced myself out of bed and started feeding my body healing vitamin-rich plant foods. I hate medicine and antibiotics – but that’s a story for another day. By Wednesday I was feeling a million times better! Proper nourishment and extra hydration is KEY when you’re feeling sick and definitely speeds up the healing process.
So what did I eat to feel better??!
First let’s talk about what I drank. Lots and lots of lemon water, turmeric glow lemonade and fresh fruit smoothies.
Throughout the day I blended 2 ready-made smoothies from Daily Harvest. Anything cold and icy to cool down my fever (I even stuck my head in the freezer a few times to cool off… LOL). Smoothies were the only thing that sounded appetizing, plus their packaging caught my eye right away. I’m a sucker for anything instagram worthy so when a brand’s packaging is on point I gravitate immediately… #sucker
I love how they ship the frozen pre-made smoothies to your door so you don’t have to prep anything when you’re feeling super lazy, are in a rush, or in my case, are feeling icky sicky. Just add any liquid base you want, blend until smooth, then pour in the same cup the ingredients came in.
Could it be any easier?!
I knew you guys would love Daily Harvest because:
- they use organic fruits, greens, veggies and unrefined superfoods
- produce is picked at peak maturity; then farm frozen to preserve nutritional density
- 14 smoothie flavors to choose from; all developed by a nutritionist
- whole food ingredients come pre-portioned in reusable cups
I first chose the (very appropriate) ‘immunity’ flavor and turned it into a smoothie bowl by adding extra frozen banana, a little almond milk (and turmeric for a boost). The ingredients pack in tons of Vitamin C, including Camu Camu berry, which has 60 times more Vitamin C than an orange and is the highest documented source of Vitamin C. They call it natures prescription. Tropical tasting and mildly sweet! I topped this ‘immunity bowl’ with half of a passion fruit, fresh blueberries, hemp seeds and organic coconut chia granola.
Later in the day, I was feeling the ‘Beautifier’ flavor with glow-inducing aca? berries, antioxidant rich blueberries, nutrient-dense kale and more. They call it the Berry Explosion, I think it tastes like an aca? bowl mixed with blueberry ice cream. The aca? is a natural energy booster and packs a punch of Vitamin C, heart healthy omega’s, fiber and antioxidants. It’s similar to my usual everyday smoothie with berries, bananas and greens, so I knew right away this would be one of my faves.
Don’t they all look amazing?! Check out their other flavors too.
Aside from the smoothies, I mostly lived on fresh watermelon, my homemade pretty pink popsicles, rice and beans with avocado and crackers. Weird combinations… but simple and easy is the way to go when you’re sick.
