“A #GIRLBOSS is in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it.”
Time for girl talk. And girl power ♥ Sophia Amoruso, author of #GIRLBOSS and owner of NastyGal, is one bad-ass betch. She inspired this girly smoothie bowl today. I am almost finished with #GIRLBOSS and I know every girl can benefit from this book. I can’t put it down! I may be late to the party and you’ve probably already read it, but if you want to feel empowered and inspired, this book is for you. Sophia shares her unique journey of how she grew her clothing company, NastyGal, into a $100 million plus company with 350 employees, all before she was 30 years old. Now that’s girl power. She shows girls that it doesn’t matter where you came from, what university you studied at, or if you are starting at the bottom, anyone can achieve success, if they are willing to put in the work and change their lifestyle. She knew what her vision was and she stuck to it, not paying attention to what anyone else was doing, which made her stand out and brought her immense success. She kept it simple and treated her customers as her best friends. I love that Sophia tells it like it is too. She talks about magical thinking and how your money looks better in the bank than on your feet. Her creativity invigorated me to get to work and also got me thinking. Who inspires me to be a #GIRLBOSS in my life? Most definitely my momma 🙂 she has always been a #GIRLBOSS from being a Chicago Honeybear to now owning her own company and working like a fiend. My mom has the biggest heart and deserves a huge shout out to being a powerful #GIRLBOSS. This book definitely resonates with me. And probably resonates with so many of you too. So how does a smoothie bowl and a #GIRLBOSS come together?!
The whole idea behind this fun (and pink) smoothie bowl is that in order to be a #GIRLBOSS, you need all the energy you can get and be thinking clearly, while nourishing your body so you can do it all over again the next day. Superfoods such as pitaya, maca powder, hemp seeds and avocado allow your body to function at a higher level because they are jam-packed with powerful nutrients. Pitaya is loaded with antioxidants including vitamin C to neutralize free radicals, and also magnesium – an important mineral needed for enzymatic reactions and for your cells to create energy, plus fiber and B vitamins – for healthy cognitive function and they help to convert your food to energy. Additionally, pitaya turns any smoothie into the most gorgeous pink/magenta color, depending on how much you add. I’ve talked about maca powder numerous times on the blog because I love it! Maca powder is packed with essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron and phosphorus, it balances your hormones, boosts energy levels, fights off fatigue, nourishes the Endocrine system and more. Many of my recipes include hemp hearts because I think they are the perfect source of plant-based protein and omegas. Don’t be scared off by superfoods! You won’t even taste them in this smoothie bowl, but adding them will take your smoothie to the next level 🙂 and then there’s avocados, which bring that creamy texture that makes this bowl silky smooth. Avocados give us the heart-healthy fat as well as potassium, fiber, vitamin C and vitamin K. So are you ready to make your #GIRLBOSS smoothie bowl?!
I know pouring your smoothie into a bowl rather than a mason jar or cup feels wrong, but it’s so right. Just a new way of thinking that your smoothie is a meal rather than a drink. If you are on the go, then most definitely pour your smoothie into a lovely mason jar but I love that I can add even more superfood toppings and get some crunch from the almonds, or extra sweetness from the strawberries, in every spoonful. Perfection in a bowl ♥

I feel so incredible eating this super smoothie bowl. I could eat it all day, everyday!! I couldn’t find pitaya, but mine was a gorgeous green instead of lively pink. Where do you find it? Could I order it online?
